One Year Down...

May 9, 2013
Hello Friends,
It has now been 14 months since my VW Beetle and I first crossed that California state line, headed west to the coast.  I can honestly say without hesitation that I love Los Angeles now more than ever (perhaps more than ever imagined).  This city has won me over with it's obnoxious billboards, overpriced gasoline, and oceans of "industry" people just hoping to find their nitch.

I am currently living in the heart of Hollywood, just south of the Griffith Observatory (I can see the glow of the Observatory from my street).  Career wise, things are picking up again.  I am writing music for country artists, rap artists, and commercial projects.  I have also recently signed with a new commercial agency and hope to be hitting the audition circuit harder than ever in the coming months.

While I love being "in the Industry", I am pretty sure I would be content in this city regardless of my "dream fulfillment".  I love the people here.  I love the creativity and the heart behind so many ideas and dreams that may or may not produce a paycheck, but still must be pursued.  Whether this is discovered through my dearest friends from my community group, or through the struggling artists I met on last weeks shoot, that sense of purpose and passion is all encompassing in this city.

Sometimes it takes on an unhealthy form, sometimes it causes people to lose judgement; however, in its simplest and purest form, it is beautiful and God give!  After all, He is the author of creativity and the ultimate creator.

Life in LA LA Land

April 12, 2012
Admittedly, my absence from blogging has been severe.  Please accept my apology for neglecting those of you who are curious about life in Los Angeles.  Needless to say, I have plenty to talk about.  I am currently living in a house for five about 12 miles east of Downtown LA.  The town I'm in is just remote enough to give me the illusion that I am not in fact just miles away from the entertainment capitol of the world.  There are well manicured lawns, plenty of parking spaces and tall white t...

And so the New Year brings...

January 14, 2012
As the dust settles from holiday gatherings, we snuggle into the cozy snow days of January.  I am soaking up these last few weeks of frigid winter before my tradition is interrupted by the sunny beaches of California.  After careful consideration, I have decided to make the move across country to Los Angeles California.  There are many unknowns about this move, but that is what makes it an adventure right?  That is what satisfies my occasional need for change and even risk.

For those of you ...

It's Christmas time!

December 19, 2011
The past few years as we would clean up after Thanksgiving and being to break out the ornaments and old Christmas albums, I dragged my feet a little.  Almost like I am still on Christmas overload from last year and am not ready for the season to commence just yet.

This year was different.  I encouraged the decorating of the Christmas tree even before thanksgiving, and started playing my "Christmas 2011" playlist in November.  I can't put my finger on the change, other than to recognize a si...

Soaking up the Fall

October 12, 2011
This past month has been busy with a concert every weekend and plenty of other activities in between.  My fall so far has been complete with camping trips, coffee dates, and long runs in the country.  That's right, I have been taking longer runs than ever before.  I have had a "life goal" to one day run a marathon, and a few months ago I discovered my golden opportunity.  I have a flexible schedule, great training weather, a training partner and an event to train for.  My friend and I will be...

Summer days

July 17, 2011
Summer is in full swing and I have a lot to be glad about, the greatest being a successful release of my debut album, Dreaming in Color.  Last Friday night, my band got together to give a concert in the loft of a gorgeous old barn settled into an even more beautiful estate.  We had a full audience complete with new and old friends and family who's eager expressions added to the celebratory spirit of this event.  I am sincerely grateful to every person who made it to this release concert, and ...

Appalachian Spring!

June 12, 2011
After weeks of wondering if the rain would ever stop, my father and his brother have all of their seeds safely covered by the soil, ready to soak up the summer sun.  And just in the nick of time.  Now lets hope the rain doesn't neglect us when we need it most.

My spring has been complete with the birth of my third nephew, a trip to the sunny beaches of Los Angeles, and a five day trek on the Appalachian Trail.  This trip in the Shenandoahs was especially memorable.  I embarked on this adventu...

God Bless Spring Time!!

March 17, 2011
Today I felt a warm breeze for the first time in months.  When I wore my sun dress, my legs did not freeze from the chilling winds meant to remind me that in fact it was still winter and I should keep my sun dress in the closet.  This fact alone makes my heart lighter and my smile wider.

The past six weeks have been extremely eventful; containing a concert in Indy, a dance competition outside of Chicago, two full recording weekends in Nashville, and a tiny bit of down time in good old India...

Post Holiday

January 21, 2011
The holidays are meant to be a time for celebration, reconnection, relaxation, and reflection.  For me, this holiday season was no exception.  It has been years since so many of my family members were able to gather in one place.  We enjoyed good food, great fun, and delightful fellowship.  I realize this is not the situation for all families.  Some may even dread this season, or become depressed at the thought of going back to a place they have worked so hard to leave.  I have no trite or cl...

Giving Thanks!

November 25, 2010
It is Thanksgiving day and my heart is bursting with things to be thankful for.  On November 4th, I was able to perform the debut of my original music.  Prior to the fourth, only a hand full of family and friends had ever heard the songs I have written.  Just under one hundred of the supportive arts patrons of Jay County came to participate in this music project.  These generous individuals brought me to my goal of raising one third of the total cost of this album.  I couldn't believe their g...
